Looking to make a difference? ICF is seeking a Chief of Party to support the USAID Lake Malawi Fisheries Conservation Project in Malawi.

Job Description :

ICF is seeking both local and international candidates to apply for the Chief of Party (COP) role for this upcoming USAID/Malawi-funded activity focused on addressing threats to the biodiversity and natural resources of Lake Malawi that are important to the economic resilience and food security of Malawians, as well as global conservation efforts. This 5-year activity will aim to strengthen economic, regulatory, and social governance mechanisms that effectively conserve the exceptional biodiversity of Lake Malawi and deliver sustainable, profitable, and equitable wild-caught and farm-raised fisheries in and around priority areas of the Lake. The COP will be based in Lilongwe and will be responsible for the overall management and successful performance of the project.

What you will be doing:

  • Be the primary liaison with the USAID project contracting officer and representatives, responding to client needs and direction.

  • Lead and manage the activity team – providing the vision, coordination, resource management, and supervision required to accomplish objectives and deliver superior quality products.

  • Ensure quality control and adaptive management, including necessary adjustments to operations to maximize development impact and activity results.

What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):

  • Advanced degree in relevant field (e.g., biodiversity conservation, environmental/natural resource management, international development/relations, environmental economics, public administration).

  • 10+ years of relevant technical experience working to support conservation initiatives in Africa, and ideally with extensive experience in Malawi and/or Southern Africa.

What we would like you to have:

  • 5+ years of experience managing complex interdisciplinary projects that integrate biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, climate, gender, economic development or governance, is desired.

  • USAID-funded activity management experience including successful oversight of senior-level international and local subject matter experts.

  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of Chichewa and other local languages and dialects is an added strength.

  • A proven record of excellent management, leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills, including being an articulate speaker and empathetic listener.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a highly skilled, interdisciplinary technical team; to interact with and lead a broad range of governmental and non-governmental actors and institutions across sectors; and to design and implement detailed strategic work plans.

  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and presentation ability, as well as experience successfully leading an intercultural team in a development context.

  • Excellent analytical skills with a strong foundation in biodiversity conservation and/or sustainable fisheries management and governance, across both public and private sectors.
