Honeywell Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist in Spokane, Washington

The Research & Development Electrochemical/Chemical Engineer reports to the Senior Research & Development Manager and collaborates regularly with a cross functional team including process engineers, product managers, technical services, field sales, international personnel, vendors, and customers. The primary focus is on the development and optimization of electrorefining and chemical processes in support of high purity materials for sputtering target applications. This role involves complex problem solving and the ability to work well with cross-functional teams that span the organization. Decisions are made and problems are solved using data from multiple internal and external sources.

Key Responsibilities:

· Work with members of R&D team, Commercial group, customers and OEM’s to identify, define and lead research & development projects centered around design and controls for electrorefining and chemical processes.

· Develop and execute test plans involving data collection, interpretation and assessment of results, and incorporation of steps for continuous improvement of processes and products.

· Develop and thoroughly characterize new products and processes for optimal performance and quality so they transfer seamlessly and cost effectively into production.

· Understand and contribute to detailed formal design and instrumentation drawings, analysis plans, and fabrication plans in coordination with stakeholders

· Execute programs according to design control procedures and contribute to continuous improvement programs.

· Recommend new manufacturing technologies and processes that complement or expand Honeywell’s core competencies.

· Work with the Process Engineering, Equipment, Quality, and Production Departments to transfer developmental technology into production.

· Provide technical support to our Quality and Technical Services Departments as appropriate on customer issues related to new and existing products. (Return Material Authorizations – RMA’s and Technical Assistance Requests – TAR’s)

· Keep up to date on technology developments, trends, innovations, and issues related to electronic materials, and materials processing technologies.

· Promote innovation by submitting new ideas and generating patents.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

· Ability to write technical reports and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

· Ability to effectively present information to internal teams, leadership, and public groups.

· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

· Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

· Comfortable with the design and analysis of designed experiments, as well as risk identification (FMEA, etc.) in complex fabrication processes.

· Good team skills, interpersonal skills, project management skills and written & verbal communication skills are essential

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization

Compensation & Benefits:

Non-Incentive

Salary Range $105,000-$157,000

MUST HAVE:

· BS degree in Chemistry/Chemical or Electrochemical Engineering, Metallurgy/Materials Science or related discipline

· Minimum 6 years of experience in an R&D Industrial/Manufacturing environment. A lower experience level may be considered with MS or Ph.D. degree.

· Fundamental knowledge of electrochemistry, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat & mass transfer, chemical kinetics, and materials

· Good working understanding of, and hands-on experience with, electrochemical/chemical instrumentation and characterization techniques

· Hands-on experience with general wet chemistries and reactions

WE VALUE:

  • MS or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry/Chemical or Electrochemical Engineering, Metallurgy/Materials Science or related field.

  • Experience developing refining processes for high purity metals (5N purity or higher).

  • Experience in scaling R&D concepts up to commercial scale.

    · Publication and innovation record in manufacturing & material modeling, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications or issued patents.
