Rolling Stock and MSF Equipment Manager

Primary Job Location: Honolulu, Hawaii

Employment Format: Full Time/On site

Position Overview: The Rolling Stock and MSF Equipment Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure optimal train availability for service requirements. This role involves monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), reporting on work progress, identifying potential problem areas, and implementing timely management actions. The Manager also ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations, manages resources efficiently, and maintains a competent and well-trained workforce.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan preventive and corrective maintenance activities to meet train availability targets.

  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and report on progress to the Head of Maintenance & Engineering.

  • Provide constructability reviews of plans, procedures, work task lists, and specifications to evaluate scheduled activities and staffing requirements.

  • Coordinate the availability of equipment, materials, and suppliers for scheduled maintenance activities.

  • Liaise with the Safety and Environmental Manager, report relevant issues, and assist in developing and implementing corrective actions.

  • Ensure that staff are competent and trained to follow safety and maintenance procedures.

  • Ensure that sufficient materials, hand tools, and equipment are available for maintenance activities.

  • Identify and address failure trends that may impact fleet availability.

  • Ensure that Rolling Stock maintenance equipment is calibrated according to manufacturers' requirements.

  • Supervise supplier staff performing work on Rolling Stock.

  • Prepare reports as directed by the Rolling Stock and Depot Manager.

  • Conduct performance appraisals of staff in accordance with HR guidelines.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment status.

  • Identify training needs for Rolling Stock maintenance personnel.

  • Implement sound employee relations practices within the organization, in compliance with regulations and agreements.

  • Conduct special studies and investigations as directed, acting as a trouble shooter.

  • Assist in developing, planning, and implementing preventive maintenance, component overhaul, rehabilitation, and replacement programs.

  • Conduct inspections and acceptance of new train maintenance.

  • Perform related duties as requested by the Rolling Stock and Depot Manager.

  • Carry out 24-hour on-call responsibility for incidents and emergencies on the power systems and track.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Proven experience in maintenance management, preferably in a railway or similar infrastructure environment.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to effectively manage resources and optimize maintenance activities.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.

  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call as required.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment typical of major infrastructure projects and operating transit systems.

Recommended:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (preferred).
