Position Summary/Description:

The Associate Technical Director’s ( ATD ) primary responsibilities are to assist the Technical Director in the planning and construction of all PlayMakers Repertory Company ( PRC ) productions and assist in ensuring that the work performed, in the Scene Shop, is executed professionally and efficiently according to the prescribed standards. The ATD will also have responsibilities relating to design analysis, budget management and reporting, personnel management, scheduling, supervision of scenery construction, collaborating with other production and technical departments, equipping and maintaining all shop areas, and purchasing materials. The ATD will also act as Technical Director for one to two shows per season and instruct graduate and undergraduate students in the Scene Shop.

Education and Experience:

Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theater or a relevant post-baccalaureate degree.

Training in Technical Production and 3-5 years of comparable technical production experience. Previous experience supervising employees, managing budgets and working in theatrical construction, theatrical rigging, and motion control required. Must have a working knowledge of a variety of construction skills, including, but not limited to, woodworking and metalworking; understanding of structural analysis as it pertains to theatre; maintenance of shop equipment; and proficiency in the operation of a wide variety of shop equipment. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD and Photo Shop also required.
