Overview The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art (NEHMA) at Utah State University seeks an experienced and enthusiastic educator to prepare, teach, and lead educational programs for all ages and abilities. This position involves planning and implementing educational programs that enhance learning about art, art history, and other arts integration subjects for preschool, K-12, and adult audiences.

The Museum and Outreach Educator teaches K-12 and community audiences at NEHMA. This position also drives the Mobile Art Truck to districts in Utah. These school programs will range from individual classes for a specific group to extensive field trips serving an entire school over several days. Traveling locally with the Mobile Art Truck occurs monthly during the school year. Traveling distances in Utah outreach occurs in the fall and spring. Traveling locally with the Mobile Art Truck occurs monthly, and with advanced notice, longer trips further out in Utah will occur approximately six weeks of the year. The average hours per week is 26, with 65% teaching at events, 15% setting up events, and 20% preparing for events.

The Museum and Outreach Educator reports to the Coordinator of Learning and Engagement. Training and guiding student and/or part-time employees may occur.

Responsibilities Typical Functions:

  • Conducting educational sessions and presentations at various outreach events, such as field trips to NEHMA, STEM/STEAM nights in the Cache Valley, and classroom engagements.
  • Operating the Mobile Art Truck to deliver educational programs to schools across Utah.
  • Facilitating learning experiences at summer camps and community events.
  • Collaborating on the creation of lesson plans and gallery tours that align with NEHMA's collection and mission, catering to public interests.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors and/or experience in art history, visual art, museum studies, or related field.
  • Valid Utah drivers license to perform essential job responsibilities, such as driving university vehicles and transporting materials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A desire to work with the K-12 students and the community, including underserved populations, diverse groups, children, and adults.
  • Data entry and general office tasks include copying, printing, filing, binding, and packing.
  • Lifting tables, chairs, art supplies, and other items in and out of the Mobile Art Truck.
  • Working cooperatively with a team of educators and NEHMA staff.
  • Skilled in problem-solving.
  • Managing large groups of people.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to take the initiative to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, database management, email, internet use, research, and graphic design.
