Job Description:

45% Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Create, manage and execute of annual undergraduate and transfer enrollment marketing and communications plans.

  • Lead the development of key strategic documents – campaign and project plans, and strategic briefs, etc. – with key partner contacts and teammates.

  • Work closely with the DEMC to develop measurable objectives and evaluate projects against those standards.

  • Develop and utilize key insights about our various target audiences, and partner with the DEMC develop effective strategies and to both evolve and differentiate the enrollment marketing strategy to target audiences.

  • Plan, strategize, trouble-shoot, and seek solutions for the broader enrollment management team.

  • Work with external agencies and partners to ensure quality of work and effective execution of marketing/advertising plans.

35% Lead and Support Content and Creative Team

  • Support the development of creative work within the Enrollment Marketing team, at times beginning the creative process with copywriters, designers, or other team members.

  • Review creative materials and ideas against strategy and approve or suggest changes to designers, copywriters, and editors.

  • Participate in creative development meetings and support the concept-development process.

  • Focus the creative team’s efforts to ensure that, collectively, we deliver work that meets or exceeds industry standards and is on time and within budget.

  • Meet and work collaboratively with the DEMC, GOMSD and leadership group to ensure consistent and timely work output that meets agreed-upon goals.

  • Build and run mailing lists in university CRMs (Slate, MailChimp, etc.).

  • Manage final email quality-assurance. As needed, queue emails in university CRMs (Slate, MailChimp, etc.)

20% Other related duties as needed

  • Attend staff and partner meetings.

  • Plan, strategize, trouble-shoot, and seek solutions for a wide range of partners and issues.

  • Work collegially with staff and partners in a team environment.

  • Prepare and present proposals, project-status reports, and other research or evaluations.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's in journalism, advertising, public relations, strategic communications, or closely related field.

  2. 5 years of professional experience with strategic planning or account management in an agency setting or in-house marketing unit.

  3. 2 years supervisor experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. An excellent portfolio that demonstrates a clear vision and approach to strategic marketing and communications, ideally with a diversity of projects and styles.

  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated in application materials and interview process.

  3. Experience creating marketing strategies for a variety of projects, such as print and digital executions, online advertising, internal communications, etc., with proven conceptual and creative abilities.

  4. Experience with CRM principles and tools.

  5. Experience in developing marketing and campaign strategy.

  6. Experience with project management principles.

  7. Excellent analytical and process-oriented skills.

  8. Experience in higher education.

The Associate Director of Undergraduate & Transfer Marketing is a key leader in building and executing strategies to reach and recruit undergraduate and transfer students. This person leads a creative team to develop strategic marketing plans, both long- and short-term, that incorporate and enhance every piece of the undergraduate and transfer recruitment lifecycle and aligns with the overall University of Kansas brand. The associate director manages the programs, projects, functions and processes of executing these plans in collaboration with the Director of Enrollment Marketing and Communications, the Associate Director of Graduate & Online Marketing, writers, editors, designers, digital/multimedia specialists, data/market analysts, enablement, internal departments, and external vendors.

The Associate Director of Undergraduate & Transfer Marketing brings creative vision to marketing plans to recruit undergraduate and transfer students, strategically recommends tactics and messages in a variety of media and channels, reports and identifies metrics to evaluate performance and recommend enhancements, and produces high-quality work that meets and exceeds established KPIs, enrollments goals, brand standards and budgets.
