About the Desktop Support Team in the Indiana Office of Technology:

The Desktop Support Team is the first line of diagnostics for both hardware and software issues on a user’s computer. They provide support for authorized users across multiple state agencies. Tracking equipment locations, installing/decommissioning equipment, resetting/applying the base image, installing software, and working with specialty equipment setups are some of the daily responsibilities. Customer service is a large part of the team, technicians will have remote or onsite contact with customers to ensure their issues have been resolved.

Salary:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $61,022. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Role Overview:

The LAN Administrator provides desktop support for IOT and partner agencies at the Indiana Government Center Campus and surrounding downtown Indianapolis area. You will provide a wide variety of advanced technical computer system duties including supporting, installing, and maintaining computers, peripherals, and standardized software. You may transport equipment using a personal vehicle. Mileage is reimbursed.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Analyze and develop server hardware specifications and configurations.

  • Monitor the network to ensure performance status.

  • Establish standards and procedures for server specifications and setup.

  • Ensure that loops on event servers, either preventative or scheduled, are performed.

  • Ensure that all preventive maintenance is performed.

  • Act as a liaison for other departments/divisions in providing troubleshooting for all types of programs.

  • Perform studies to define solutions.

  • Install and diagnose standard-approved software.

  • Set up, troubleshoot, and diagnose PC and Laptop issues.

  • Provide integrated customer support and consult with all users on system design and implementation.

  • Evaluate new products/technologies to determine impact on existing systems.

  • Evaluate vendor products and recommend hardware, software, and modem equipment to management for purchase.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Thorough knowledge of network operating systems, design, and protocols.

  • Thorough knowledge of local area network concepts.

  • Thorough knowledge of computer programming including computer languages, database design work process charting and testing of programs.

  • Thorough knowledge of technology equipment including operating characteristics and limitations.

  • Thorough knowledge of most recent technical developments in the hardware field.

  • Advanced knowledge of operating systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of networking protocols.

  • Advanced knowledge of distributed systems-based tape management software.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Ability to read and understand complicated technical manuals on hardware, software, LAN design, and administration.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
