Hot Fuel Examination Facility (HFEF) Nuclear Research Facility Technician

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Hot Fuel Examination Facility (HFEF) Nuclear Research Facility Technician to work in our HFEF Research Operations department. Our team works a 4x12 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex.

The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at INL empowers the next generation of nuclear energy advances through hosting a unique combination of personnel, facilities, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities Include:

MFC offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels and material from fuels design, and fabrication through to post-irradiation analysis.

MFC has multiple openings for nuclear research facility technicians to work in the multiple facilities. Nuclear Research Facility Technicians perform a variety of work activities including tracking, packaging, transferring fissionable materials, and handling, and treating radioactive and hazardous material. Main functions of the position are:

• Skillfully operates and performs some maintenance on facility equipment and systems. Facility equipment and systems may include overhead handling systems, remote handling and manipulating equipment, shielded casks, facility utilities, operational support systems, gloveboxes and testing equipment. Requires watching gauges, dials, or other indictors to make sure equipment is working properly.

• Fully shows and integrates Human Performance Improvement (HPI) knowledge in all work processes. Contribute to an environment where use of HPI tools are the normal standard practice, expected and appreciated.

• Maintains accurate records of facility operation, equipment performance, production, treatment and experimental data in logbooks, log-sheets, or other data packages by facility programs and administrative procedures.

• As requested, reviews and provides operational input to proposed procedures, procedural revisions, and proposed modifications to facility equipment/systems.

• Applies standard procedures for assigned tasks and known processes, such as experiments requiring minor modification and overseeing test equipment.

• Performs data analysis and maintains proper documentation, understand and perform material transfer limits, material at risk evaluations, criticality requirements, supports maintenance and engineering to perform equipment performance trending.

This position requires working nights on a 4 x 12 schedule with shifts beginning Sunday at 7pm with the last shift starting at 7pm on Wednesday.

*Minimum Requirements: *

• Level 2/Level 3: HS Diploma and four years of experience working in a similar nuclear environment, or a Vocational or technical certification such as Energy System Technology & Education Center (ESTEC), successfully completing required course work and 2 years’ experience, OR four years Nuclear Navy experience, nuclear NEC, Machinist’s Mate (MM), Electrician’s Mate (EM), or Electronics Technician (ET)

• Relevant experience gained in many industrial, laboratory, or commercial settings

• You must also have a firm understanding of conduct of operations and a practical knowledge of basic engineering theory in electrical power distribution, instrumentation and control, nuclear physics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics

• Successful completion of college level or high school advanced placement math and science courses with a min of a “C” grade as part of the interview process

• This position will require working nights on a 4 x 12 schedule with shifts beginning Sunday at 7pm with the last shift starting at 7pm on Wednesday

• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship

• Salary Grade: TS0200 180 – ($64,272 – $102,840)/TS0300 190 – ($72,528 - $119,652)
