Amazon Global Supply Manager, Devices Supply Chain & Logistics in Hanoi, Vietnam

The Global Supply Manager (GSM) is responsible for supply continuity from product launch through end of manufacturing. To succeed in this role, you need excellent interpersonal skills, strong understanding of commodity management. The GSM will own supply planning throughout the product lifecycle and engage directly with suppliers (component, EMS). The GSM works closely with Global Commodity Management (GCM) to evaluate supplier performance, prepare for supplier meetings, and build the Supplier Plan of Record (SPOR) for each product. Successful GSMs thrive in a rapidly changing environment and constantly drive excellence across their own responsibilities as well as that of team members and partners. This job requires travel up to 50% both domestically and internationally.

The responsibilities of this role include:

• Commodity and sub-tier supplier management

• Supply chain mapping

• Risk buy management

• Launch readiness and capacity planning

• Tier-n forecasting management

• Support strategic supply initiatives (e.g.: strategic buys)

• Product transitions

• Excess & obsolescence management

• Lead time management

• Support management of sub-tier buffer programs to lower configurable component lead times

• Distributor consolidation and management

• Implementation of engineering changes/ product change notifications (PCN).

Key job responsibilities

As a Global Supply Manager (GSM), you will:

Assess program demand forecasts and ensure supplier has adequate capacity in place to support demand.

Be responsible for capacity and tooling requirements planning, support of copy tool qualifications, tooling lifecycle management, production ramp and supply continuity through end of production.

Work with suppliers to understand sub-tier raw material demand and successfully forecast to tier-n suppliers.

Support to manage VMI and HUB raw material and raw materials buffer programs.

Understand and execute end to end supply chain, including distribution, consolidated and streamlined inventory management

Assess and mitigate supply chain and project timing risks to the business.

Interface with Planning, GCM, and Product Operations to assess current and future sourcing requirements.

Interface with Global Commodity Management teams to provide inputs related to supplier selection, supplier business reviews, CAPEX, escalations.

Interface with Materials Management to identify material shortages at contract manufacturing sites. Work with the supply base to close shortages and ensure on time product shipments.

Support to negotiate capacity, schedule, process, and resources for enhanced support as required. Support to manage and negotiate excess and obsolescence liabilities with suppliers.

A day in the life

As a GSM your day to day activities will vary but your primary focus will be effectively maintaining supply continuity for your programs and commodities. You will engage with the core team, Materials Managers and Global Commodity Managers to ensure the supply chain is uninterrupted. You will partner with our suppliers to ensure they meet our requirements and get the internal support required.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field

• 5+ years in high volume manufacturing operations or sourcing environment.

• 5+ years of direct experience in supplier/supply chain management.

• Strong mechanical engineering background in product development such as enclosure, injections, stamping, die casting.

• Proven ability to influence across multiple functional teams.

• Flexible and able to adapt to dynamic and rapidly changing environments.

• Ability to toggle between strategic and detail orientated thinking.

• Be an excellent communicator, capable of working in multinational environments, driven and motivated by accomplishing extraordinary objectives.

• Knowledge of basic supply agreement construction; understanding of key contracting provisions/requirements.

• Hands-on experience in any of the following: mechanical engineering, mechanical development, manufacturing practices/techniques involving CNC Machined parts, sheet metal, enclosures, casings, jigs, tooling, fixtures, injection molding, vacuum forming, plastic parts.

• Experience with MS Excel

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree

• Familiar with EM commodities such as battery, charger, adapter

• Exceptional ability to solve problems and coordinate with global team members.

• Extensive negotiation experience with global suppliers with a proven track record in cost reduction.

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

• Ability to be innovative in issues related to supply chain management, supplier relations, quality assurance and the associated measurement systems.
