Target Fabric Engineer in Guatemala City, Guatemala

As a Fabric Engineer, means partnering with various cross functional teams, with the Global team, managing mill level activities and relationships for their respective regions. This role will manage suppliers across the region for all categories and work closely with CFT (Cross Functional Team) and Third Party labs by conducting facility assessments, developing performance metrics and measurement systems to quantify operational performance of suppliers. Be an expert in quality assurance processes, procedures and tools, able to determine the critical process to quality.

Build and monitor health of supplier matrix and help suppliers in building good traceability system. Provide technical knowledge and suggestions to fabric suppliers and ensure timeliness of deadlines. Communicate and facilitate within raw material team as well as with CFT & fabric suppliers. You’ll be leveraging extensive breadth and depth of specialized experience to develop guest-centric product solutions in partnership with key internal partners, external companies, vendors and suppliers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Innovation

  • Foster an environment and culture of innovative thought, communication & expression to advance Owned Brand product innovation.

  • Filter, prioritize and align innovation projects to the core business strategies and key initiatives.

  • Develop industry-changing products, technology, and/or processes ensure Target’s products are leading the industry.

  • Protect intellectual property appropriately with non-disclosure agreements, patents and other IP decisions.

  • Formulate measures of performance and success and report out to key stakeholders.

Strategy Development

  • Provide technical expertise to the business, suppliers and vendor through up-to-date understanding of business categories related to product development (including industry trends, regulatory standards, labeling practices, emerging issues & new technologies). Run technical and economic feasibility trials.

  • Ensure proper development effective process focus on timelines and approval attempts per match.

  • Partner with OBSD/OBPD Operations to streamline internal processes and create SOP’s that improve efficiencies for the supply chain as well as internal teams.

  • Identify and explore the potential of implementing new materials, functionality, products or manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency, sales and profitability for our business.

Product

  • Monitor, coordinate and facilitate continuous process improvement at factory level with an emphasis on quality, cost, traceability, and transparency parameters in order to improve the effectiveness of the whole supply chain of Target.

  • Create and share Raw Material technical specifications to suppliers and vendors.

  • Execute technical validation and approval process for Raw Materials.

  • Provide technical expertise and consultation; identify standardization and consolidation opportunities and recommend focused material palettes.

  • Support development of sustainable raw materials and processes that impact and improve product and supply chain efficiency.

Training and Mentoring

  • Receive and provide formal and informal technical mentoring for vendors and suppliers

  • Build a network of third party support to influence and drive continuous learning.

  • Provide training and on-boarding for vendors and suppliers, and monitor for continuous improvement.

Vendor Relationships

  • Cultivate strategic network of contacts with business partnerships that expand our current capabilities in the region and expertise.

  • Build transformational vendor and supplier partnerships that proactively support our business strategies associated with co-development, innovation, quality improvements, cost transparencies and formula exclusivity & ownership.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Engineering Degree in textiles, material science, chemical or mechanical engineering or equivalent based on specialization.

  • 5+ years of experience related industry experience (Fabric development).

  • Expert technical knowledge of yarn spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and finishing processes.

  • Experience working with large scale commercial manufacturing.

  • Experience in engineering and validating guest-centric performance claims

  • Knowledge of material testing methods.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and creative thinking skills.

  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.

  • Strong English written and oral communication skills – ability to synthesize & communicate emerging science knowledge.

  • Business understanding and acumen.

  • Ability to influence a tailor message across variety of audiences at factory levels.
