Universal Health Services Communication Specialist in EDINBURG, Texas

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY: The Communications Specialist works in accordance with established policies and procedures with direct and specific instruction from the System Director of Marketing & Public Relations (SDM&PR) to help raise awareness for, and build the reputation of, South Texas Health System’s facilities, staff and service lines, as well as contributions to the local community. Working directly under the supervision of the SDM&PR, this position will develop and manage communications that promote, enhance and protect South Texas Health System’s brand image and reputation, including in-house multimedia content and public relations efforts with the local media, bloggers, influencers, etc. Responsible for creating multi-channel, integrated communication products and services including; online communications such as web/blog posts, multimedia content in conjunction with STHS’ outside creative agency, e-newsletters and public relations activity including media releases and communications. S/he will help execute media inquiries and interview requests as assigned by the SDM&PR

The position will assist the SDM&PR in the execution of multimedia content strategies that are intended to create, maintain and promote a positive public image. They will develop relationships with various members of the media to help promote STHS in the community. The Communications Specialist will help execute the yearlong content plan developed by the SDM&PR, helping to share timely content across all channels, among other duties. The position will be responsible for working with corporate and IT to update the STHS blog and news sections across all system websites, guaranteeing content is refreshed, added and shared in a timely manner. Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Build excellent relationships with key media on behalf of South Texas Health System

Develop press materials inclusive of press releases, fact sheets, messaging documents and pitch materials using existing creative and marketing materialsManage and update database of media contacts, including developing media contact listsSupport new camoaign launches through proactive media outreach across print, broadcast and online outlets across lifestyle, consumer, targeted trade outletsMedia monitoring for both proactive and reactive/crisis issuesManage reactive media inquiriesEDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Public Relations, or related field

At least 1 year of experience in Public Relations, News MediaCreative mindset with the ability to develop interesting media materials that would secure media interest and coverageProactive and takes responsibility for projects with tight timelines and deadlinesAbility to multitask, while being highly organized, and juggling multiple work streams while supporting administrative needs for the teamDemonstrates adaptability and ability to work in an ever-changing fast pace environmentTeam player who is willing to roll up their sleeves and jump into whatever is needed in order to get the job doneExcellent written and oral communications skills
