Ford Motor Company HIL Test Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

The position of Diagnostic Test Engineer plays a crucial role within the Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) organization by focusing on designing, developing, and executing diagnostic test procedures for electronic control units (ECUs) and systems. The Diagnostic Test Engineer ensures that diagnostic functionalities within ECUs are thoroughly tested and validated in a simulated environment, aligning with the organization's quality standards and requirements.

  • Work with integration engineers to identify, generate and implement test cases and validation criteria for a system under test

  • Work with test manager to configure test setups and test runs according to the test plan

  • Develop test automation, automate test tools, generate and improve automation scripts

  • Document and track issues as appropriate and participate in triaging of issues with different teams to drive towards root cause identification and resolution

  • Collaborate with Controls teams, System Engineers, Diagnostics team, EOL & Service teams and various test teams to plan test activities

  • Report and Escalate issues as appropriate and participate in triaging of issues with various stakeholders

  • Help identify gaps in requirements and work with the relevant engineers to update the requirement documents accordingly

  • Participate in the design of a world-class engineering effort to bring electric vehicles to a new level of refinement

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/electronic engineering and/or related field

  • 5+ years of work experience in Diagnostics/EOL

  • Knowledge of analog / digital circuits

  • Knowledge of diagnostic standards ODX/PDX

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/electronic engineering and/or related field

  • Knowledge of analog / digital circuits

  • Knowledge of diagnostic standards ODX/PDX

  • 3 + years' Experience with dSPACE ControlDesk NG, CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, CANoe DiVa or similar tools to test Diagnostics

  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, UDS, DoIP and related tools to measure and command signals, though scripting

  • 5+ Hands on Experience with Diagnostics services

  • Hands on Experience with Electrical DTC's, Loss Comm DTC's & Invalid DTC's

  • Understanding of Electrical Vehicle Schematics

  • ECU D&R or Systems Engineer experience

  • Programming Skills (Python or related)

  • Test Case development & Automation

  • Self-sufficient, ability to work independently and in a team

This position is a salary grade 8.
