Early Childhood Specialist - Family & Volunteer Services Requisition ID 2024-48733 Category Allied Health Overview The Early Childhood Teacher has the primary responsibility for identifying Nationwide Children?s Hospital patients from birth through age five who are experiencing delays in development or are at risk for delays and are eligible for early intervention and pre-school services. The teacher incorporates evidence-based practices and completes developmental assessments; establishes developmental goals in collaboration with family and interdisciplinary team members; provides developmental interventions; coordinates community referrals; provides education for family members, hospital staff and community regarding early intervention; and demonstrates competencies defined (*) in Early Childhood Teacher responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 5 years. Responsibilities Identifies potential candidates for early intervention, pre-school, and previously enrolled patients from hospital census; communicates information about early childhood developmental program to the parents; and gathers necessary information for enrollment. Seeks information about diversity and is culturally sensitive to the diversity of families in developing supportive programs and providing services. Uses formal and informal tools to assess the development of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Incorporates evidence-based practices and selects developmental goals in collaboration with family and team members. Provides developmental activities for groups and individuals to facilitate progress toward children?s individualized goals. Communicates child?s progress to parents on a regular basis and provides parent education regarding early intervention, appropriate development, and ways to enhance development. Collaborates as part of a multidisciplinary team to co-treat, inform or support. Shares skills and knowledge in both direct and in-direct patient care efforts. Educates the house staff and community on role and importance of early developmental services within and outside of the hospital.
