Purpose

The Right of Way Field Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the Right of Way and Utility Department by assisting Field Agents and ensuring efficient and accurate fieldwork.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes. Receive direction on all aspects of assignments, specific tasks and how to execute. Work is thoroughly reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Assist Field Agents in conducting on-site assessments of right of way and utility properties.

Do the Work

  • Assist in maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Collect and record relevant data during field inspection (i.e. customer contact information/interactions, meter location, etc).

  • Support negotiations and acquisitions of land or rights of way.

  • Assisting outreach agents as a witness in the field and translating when necessary.

  • Collaborate closely with Field Agents, internal teams, and external stakeholders.

  • Help maintain accurate records and documentation of field activities.

  • Adhere to safety standards and protocols.

  • Assist in providing regular updates and reports on project progress.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in a relevant field is a plus.

  • Basic knowledge of right of way regulations and land acquisition processes.

  • Expert level knowledge of IPAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Database Entry (ability to navigate, enter data into applications).

  • State Notary Public certification is required or must be able to obtain six months or less from hire date.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of Customer Service or related experience required.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to fieldwork tasks.

  • Valid driver's license and successful completion of MVR or reliable transportation to and from project sites.

  • Physical fitness and ability to perform outdoor fieldwork (e.g. walking long distances over rough terrain, working in extreme temperatures, etc.).

  • Previous experience in a related role is desirable but not mandatory.

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred)

  • May be required to work weekends and evenings, as necessary.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.

  • Primarily local travel during the business day, generally within 1- hour of the office location. No overnight travel required.

  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
