Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction is seeking an Internal Affairs Investigator to plan, organize, and conduct administrative or criminal investigations involving incarcerated individuals, staff, and private citizens that may affect correctional security, public safety, or Department operations. The position reports directly to the Chief Investigator of the IDOC Special Investigations Unit (SIU). This position is located at the Boise Central Office, 1299 N. Orchard, Boise, Idaho 83706.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and conduct internal affairs investigations and investigative activities statewide.

• Research allegations of staff and incarcerated individual misconduct, criminal activities, and security and public safety issues.

• Interview individuals to obtain facts, research using a variety of sources to obtain background and criminal history records.

• Collect and evaluate evidence, prepare investigative reports and coordinate activities with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

• Testify, present evidence, and serve as an expert witness in court.

• Provide training on interviewing and investigative techniques.

• Provide training to new hires and others as directed.

• Conduct Use of Force reviews.

• Conduct searches and seizures.

• Advise management and staff regarding investigation issues and make recommendations on courses of action.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Some knowledge of training methods. This is typically gained by successful completion of at least one college level course (3 credits) or workshops & classes of 16 hours (2 days) or more covering communication concepts, learning styles, course design, and presentation skills. Example: Train the Trainer OR experience co-presenting or leading formal training sessions with staff (such as at POST, refresher training, etc.).

• Experience conducting administrative and/or criminal investigations.

• Experience conducting interviews, gathering evidence, analyzing facts, and preparing investigative reports. This is typically gained by approximately one years' experience as an investigator where part of your job duties included conducting administrative or criminal interviews, gathering administrative or criminal evidence, maintaining a chain of custody, analyzing facts, and preparing investigative reports.

Specialty Requirements:

• Good knowledge of the criminal justice system. Typically gained by at least two years of experience involving daily interaction with clients or offenders to enforce security and safety procedures and/or address client behaviors in a corrections or law enforcement setting, Example: Experience as a police officer, probation and parole officer, correctional officer, case manager, mental health or criminal justice professional; OR Bachelor's Degree or higher in Criminal Justice or related field.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Current Peace Officers Standards & Training, Basic Patrol Academy (POST) Certification from Idaho or another state.

• ILETS Certification.

• Experience working as an Internal Affairs investigator.

• Experience with Use of Force within a correctional setting.

• Ability to qualify with and carry a firearm.
