We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Controller in the education sector, located in San Mateo, California. This role involves overseeing all operational functions related to the university's financial transactions, including managing and directing personnel to ensure timely and accurate accounting and reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Managing and directing staff professionals involved with all aspects of financial transactions, including accounting and financial reporting functions

• Developing, implementing, monitoring, and controlling fiscal policies and procedures in compliance with best accounting practices for higher education institutions

• Ensuring monthly and annual fiscal general ledger close and providing cash reconciliation and fund/cash balance projections

• Coordinating and overseeing semi-monthly payroll operations and monthly general ledger reconciliation fiscal close

• Overseeing the annual external financial statement audit, the single audit over federal awards, and the annual tax return audits

• Coordinating the annual close of the University’s books, preparing and reviewing the yearly financial statements

• Working closely with the University Budget Office and executive management on financial planning and operational data requirements

• Ensuring the financial and supporting systems are monitored and integrated efficiently to support accounting and reporting

• Providing staff leadership, support, training, and guidance on technical accounting issues and methods

• Serving as primary functional lead for financial systems.

Skills:

• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems

• Experience with Accounting Functions

• Knowledge in Auditing

• Familiarity with Budget Processes

• Proficiency in Financial Statement Preparation.

Requirements • Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in a Controller role or similar financial management position

• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems is required

• Demonstrated experience in managing Accounting Functions is essential

• Prior experience in Auditing is necessary

• Must have a strong understanding of Budget Processes

• Experience in Financial Statement Preparation is crucial

• Must have a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (Master's degree or CPA is preferred)

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required

• Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential

• Must have a high level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation

• Strong business and common sense skills and ability to exercise independent judgment

• Ability to collaborate with a multi-department team.
