Alfred University Assistant Dean, College of Business in Alfred, New York

Position provides assistance to the College and to the Dean by administering student support programs and supporting a broad range of programs and services provided to students and faculty.

Salary: $61,500

Requirements:

  • Formal Education:

  • Master’s Degree in a field related to higher education (e.g. MSED in Education, College Student Development, Counseling, or Master’s in Business Administration)

  • Experience:

  • 3 years of work experience in an office environment

  • Additional Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of computer software systems (Excel, Publisher, Web access/design software)

  •  Excellent interpersonal, planning, and problem-solving skills

  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills

Responsibilities:

  • Administration of College-Level Retention Programs:

  • Develop individualized contracts with students on academic probation regarding goals and supports

  •  Meet with these students on an ongoing basis to provide support and guidance; interact with parents as appropriate

  • Assist students on financial aid probation with development of Financial Aid Plans

  •  Manage study hall program for COB students on probation, including supervision of graduate student study hall monitors

  • Primary facilitator and college-level respondent to the Beacon Student Alerts system

  • Liaison with campus support offices (Center for Academic Success, Higher Education Opportunity Program, Dean of Student Experience, Center for Advising, Counseling Center) for students in need

  • Serve as a member of college level Scholastic Standards Committee

  • Review re-enrollment applications for suspended or dismissed student

  • Maintain interventions data and provide analyses of impact of interventions

  • Student Advising:

  • Meet with undergraduate students and sign registration forms, including

overloads, late drop/adds, transfer credits, switching curriculum and

majors, and course planning issues

  • Provide registration support for incoming first year students; monitor

course closures, and interface with program chairs regarding needs for

additional class sections

  • Assist faculty and students with resolving conflicts regarding transfer credits, and graduation requirements

  • Liaison with other Assistant Deans for smooth transfer of students between colleges; advise students on curriculum options and switches and options

  • Provide training and support to faculty in effective advising practices develop tools and forms to enhance advising practices

  • Curriculum Development"

  • Attend college level Curriculum Committee meetings

  • Maintain up-to-date listing of courses fulfilling general education and liberal arts electives requirements for COB

  • Provide support for faculty and program directors in development of new curriculum initiatives (majors and minors) in relation to availability of courses within COB and across other college curricula

  • Marketing & Student Recruitment:

  • Promote recruitment efforts within the college, including attending and presenting at open houses and graduate and undergraduate fairs as needed

  • Liaison with admissions office and faculty to insure representation at all open houses and for prospective student tours

  • Work closely with marketing team and program faculty to develop written and on-line marketing materials

  • Support program faculty with development and maintenance of website and social media presence

  • Work with marketing professionals on development of print materials for targeted advertising campaigns

  • Supervise graduate student assistants in publishing college-level and program newsletters

  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean
